tasting.pt was born from a simple conviction: Portuguese food deserves to be understood, not just consumed.
Portugal has one of the most diverse and storied food cultures in Europe, yet it remains one of the least documented. Beyond the pastel de nata and the bacalhau, there is a world of disappearing recipes, artisan producers fighting against industrial homogeneity, and young chefs rethinking tradition without abandoning it.
tasting.pt exists to tell these stories. We travel the country — from the smoked meat villages of Trás-os-Montes to the fish markets of the Algarve, from the volcanic kitchens of the Azores to the cork oak plains of the Alentejo — and bring back the stories that matter.
We are not a restaurant guide. We are not a recipe blog. We are a food publication that treats Portuguese gastronomy with the depth, respect, and curiosity it deserves.
The people shaping Portuguese cuisine — from Michelin-starred innovators to the grandmother running a tasca in a village of 200.
Traditional and contemporary Portuguese recipes, tested and told with the context that makes them meaningful.
The artisans behind Portugal's PDO cheeses, IGP sausages, single-estate olive oils, and the endangered ingredients they protect.
Portugal through its terroirs — each region a different climate, a different soil, a different table.
The gastronomy calendar — cherry festivals, sardine nights, wine harvests, and the celebrations that bind food to community.
Our signature series: disappearing recipes rescued village by village, before the last person who makes them is gone.
tasting.pt is produced by a small team of writers, photographers, and food obsessives based across Portugal. We write in English to share Portuguese food culture with the world, and in Portuguese because it's ours.
