Write for Us

We're always looking for writers who know Portuguese food — or who want to learn it one dish at a time.

Who We're Looking For

tasting.pt publishes long-form food and travel writing about Portugal. We're interested in writers who combine genuine culinary knowledge with strong storytelling — people who can explain why a dish matters, not just how to make it.

You don't need to be Portuguese. You don't need to be a professional writer. But you do need to care about accuracy, context, and the difference between a good meal and a good story.

What We Publish

Regional Food Stories

Deep dives into a region's food culture — its history, producers, signature dishes, and the people who keep traditions alive. We value first-person reporting: go there, eat the food, talk to the people.

e.g., 'The Bread Villages of Trás-os-Montes: Where Rye Still Rules'

Chef & Producer Profiles

In-depth profiles of the people behind Portuguese food — from Michelin-starred chefs to the woman making queijo de Azeitão in her farmhouse. We want character, context, and specificity.

e.g., 'The Last Alheira Maker of Mirandela'

Recipe Stories

Not just a recipe — the story behind it. Why does this dish exist? What does it tell us about the place it comes from? Include a tested recipe, but lead with narrative.

e.g., 'Açorda: The Alentejo Bread Soup That Refuses to Die'

A Receita Perdida (The Lost Recipe)

Our signature series documenting disappearing recipes. This requires real fieldwork — finding the last people who make a dish and recording how it's done before it's gone.

e.g., 'Papas de Milho: Hunting for Minho's Vanishing Cornmeal Porridge'

Food & Culture Essays

Thoughtful essays connecting Portuguese food to broader themes — migration, identity, climate, colonialism, modernity. Opinion with substance.

e.g., 'Why Portugal's Best Chefs Are Returning to Their Grandmothers' Recipes'
