IGP - Portuguese gastronomy

IGP (Indicação Geográfica Protegida) is the Portuguese designation for Protected Geographical Indication, certifying regional food products.

IGP, or Indicação Geográfica Protegida, is a European Union quality certification guaranteeing that a food product is produced, processed, or prepared within a specific geographic area using recognised methods. In Portugal, dozens of products carry this designation.

The IGP label sits alongside DOP in Portugal's system of geographic certifications. For consumers, the IGP mark signals authenticity, traceability, and a meaningful connection to terroir. It plays a vital role in protecting traditional Portuguese products from imitation.
