Iogurte de Ovelha

Iogurte de Ovelha - Portuguese gastronomy

An artisanal dairy product from the Beiras, creamy and rich, made from sheep's milk.

Sheep yogurt is produced artisanally in the Beiras, a region with a long tradition of sheep farming. Sheep's milk, fattier and more proteic than cow's milk, results in a naturally creamy, intensely flavoured yogurt.

Production follows traditional methods with slow fermentation. Many producers use milk from indigenous breeds like the Bordaleira or Mondegueira, preserving the ovine genetic heritage.
