Utensílios Tradicionais
By Maria Santos

Portuguese traditional cooking utensils reflect centuries of culinary wisdom, from the Algarve cataplana to the Trás-os-Montes copper pot.
Portuguese cooking developed specific utensils that shaped its techniques and flavours. The cataplana, the alguidar de barro, the pilão de pedra, and the tacho de cobre are functional pieces elevated to cultural icons.
Each region created instruments adapted to its needs: the espeto for Bairrada suckling pig, the sertã for Alentejo migas. Preserving these objects also preserves the culinary techniques associated with them.
