Vinho Verde

By Ana Rodrigues
Vinho Verde - Portuguese gastronomy

A denomination of origin from the Minho known for young, fresh, and slightly effervescent wines.

Vinho Verde refers not to colour but to youth — produced in Portugal's second-oldest demarcated region. The Atlantic climate of the Minho gives it vibrant acidity and singular freshness.

Emblematic varieties include Alvarinho, Loureiro, Trajadura for whites, and Vinhão for reds. The Alvarinho from Monção and Melgaço has achieved international recognition for its aromatic complexity.
