Vitela de Lafões - Portuguese gastronomy

A traditional veal dish from the Lafões sub-region in the Beiras, slow-cooked with wine and paprika.

Vitela de Lafões is a representative dish of the sub-region between Viseu and São Pedro do Sul. Young veal, raised on the green pastures, is slowly cooked in regional wine with paprika and garlic.

Distinguished by a prolonged vinha-d'alhos marinade and generous paprika, the dish is traditionally served with boiled potatoes or white rice. It is festival food, prepared for special occasions and community celebrations.
