Yakissoba Portuguesa
By João Ferreira

A Luso-Brazilian adaptation of the Japanese dish, incorporating Portuguese ingredients and seasonings.
Portuguese yakisoba arrived via the Brazilian diaspora, which had already adopted and transformed the Japanese dish. In Portugal, it gained a new layer with the incorporation of chouriço, roasted peppers, and olive oil.
In multicultural neighbourhoods of Lisbon and Porto, Portuguese yakisoba is a common presence in restaurants and takeaways. It is a living testament to how Portuguese cuisine continues to absorb and reinvent global influences.
