Queijada de Sintra
By Pedro OliveiraLisboa

A small, sweet cheese pastry from Sintra, made with fresh cheese, eggs, and sugar in a thin pastry shell.
Queijadas de Sintra are small pastries produced in Sintra since at least the 13th century. The filling combines fresh cheese, sugar, eggs, and cinnamon, baked inside a thin, crisp pastry shell. Historical records show queijadas being offered as tribute to the crown.
The most traditional queijadas come from Sapa, a family-run shop that has guarded its recipe for generations. They are inseparable from a visit to Sintra and pair beautifully with the region's romantic gardens.
