Sericaia

Sericaia - Portuguese gastronomy

A traditional egg and cinnamon pudding from the Alentejo, typically served with Elvas plums in syrup.

Sericaia is a baked egg pudding from the Alentejo, made with eggs, sugar, flour, milk, and generous cinnamon. It bakes into a golden, soufflé-like dessert with a caramelized top and creamy, quivering interior. The recipe has origins in a 16th-century convent in Elvas.

Traditionally served alongside ameixas de Elvas — small green plums preserved in sugar syrup with DOP status. The combination is one of Portugal's great dessert pairings and a point of regional pride.
