Vindima

Vindima - Portuguese gastronomy

The annual grape harvest ritual, celebrated with particular intensity in the Douro between September and October.

The vindima in the Douro is one of Portugal's most emblematic agricultural events. On the steep terraced slopes, harvesting is still done by hand under the September heat.

The traditional process included treading grapes in granite lagares. The vindima is also a moment of celebration, with communal meals at quintas. Many estates now welcome visitors to participate in this ancestral ritual.
