Xixi de Figo

By Carlos Automatico20 March 2026Algarve
Xixi de Figo - Portuguese gastronomy

A traditional Algarve sweet made with dried figs, almonds, and spices.

Xixi de figo is an ancestral Algarve sweet using the region's most abundant products: dried figs and almonds. The fig paste is moulded into shapes and filled with crushed almonds and cinnamon.

This confection has Moorish roots, reflecting the Islamic tradition of sweets based on dried fruits and spices. Traditionally prepared for Christmas, it is now found year-round in Algarve pastelarias.
