About

Vítor Matos stands as one of Portugal's most celebrated culinary figures, born in Jorjais, Vila Real, with an international career spanning nearly three decades. His culinary journey began with formal training in Cuisine and Pastry in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, establishing a foundation that would blend Portuguese heritage with international technique and precision.

Matos has revolutionized Portugal's gastronomic landscape through his flagship restaurant Antiqvvm in Porto, which earned two Michelin stars for its creative Portuguese cuisine overlooking the Douro River. His culinary empire extends beyond Porto, encompassing multiple Michelin-starred establishments including 2Monkeys in Lisbon (co-created with Francisco Quinta), BLIND in Porto, Oculto in Vila do Conde, and Schistó in the Douro Valley, making him the Portuguese chef with the most Michelin stars in his portfolio.

His cooking philosophy centers on utilizing genuine, fresh seasonal and regional products while enhancing natural flavors through Mediterranean-influenced techniques. At 2Monkeys, he introduced the concept of 'fun fine-dining' to Lisbon's gastronomic scene, demonstrating his ability to balance sophistication with accessibility. Matos represents a new generation of Portuguese chefs who honor traditional flavors while embracing contemporary culinary innovation.

With a professional background divided between Portugal and Switzerland, Matos continues to push boundaries in Portuguese gastronomy, establishing himself as a chef-of-the-moment who has fundamentally transformed how Portuguese cuisine is perceived both domestically and internationally.
